Convert hand-drawn sketches, photos or illustrations into vectors for scalable designs using Adobe Illustrator. These simplified images can be used for presentations and reports, including vinyl or iron-on cuts with the Cricut Maker.
Image Trace converts raster images (JPEG, PNG, PSD, etc.) into vector artwork. You can use this feature to trace and convert existing images, like pencil sketches, into vectors. Choose from various tracing presets for quick, desired results.
Open or place a raster image in your Illustrator document.
With the placed image selected, do one of the following:
- Choose Object > Image Trace > Make to trace with default parameters.
- Click the Image Trace button in the Control or Properties panel, or select a preset
from the Tracing Presets button.
Choose Window > Image Trace or switch to the Tracing workspace to open the Image Trace panel. Then, you can either choose a default preset from the drop-down menu or specify the tracing options. - Adjust the tracing results in the Image Trace panel (Window > Image Trace).
- To convert the tracing object to paths and to manually edit the vector artwork, choose Object > Image Trace > Expand.
- Choose Object > Image Trace > Make to trace with default parameters.

Short Video Tutorials: - Tips for Creating a BookletÌý
-
For a professional looking booklet 16 sheets or less, we suggest saddlestitch binding. We have a long arm stapler and a commercial style saddlestitch stapler to help with binding.
- Whichever software you choose to use to create your booklet, center your page numbers to avoid the hassle of arranging numbers according to left or right side page.
- Set inner margin to at least 1/4" in the booklet design to leave space for binding, you will need more space if using comb or spiral binding.
- Avoid designing pages with color or images bleeding to the edge of the paper, our campus printers can not print to the edge, there will always be a 1/4 inch margin around the edge of the paper. Include a 1/4" safety margin on all sides for text
- Create two files for your booklet: 1) a cover file with 4 pages, and 2) an interior page file. It is important to provide the interior pages in chronological order.
-
Page Count
The interior booklet page count must be divisible by 4. When printed, each folded sheet of paper creates four pages, double sided. Our suggestion: create one file for the cover pages only (4 pages), giving you blank pages for the inside front and inside and outside back cover page. Laminate for a nice finishing touch. Create a separate file for the inside booklet pages, making sure the page count is divisible by 4. - Arranging Pages
Create the booklet pages in the order they'll be read. The printer will create the booklet layout in the proper order. - Paper Size
The paper size for the booklet should be twice the size of the page. For example, an 8.5 x 11 booklet will print on 17 x 11 paper. We can not print larger than tabloid sized paper. - Printer Options
Save the booklet as a PDF. When sending the booklet to print, select print option Booklet, the printer will automatcially arrange pages in proper order, select print double sided, depending on layout of the pages you may need to printer long edge or short edge.
